| UPDATED NOV. 27, 2007 I realize this apology is coming nearly five years too late to undo the damage that I contributed to back in 2003 in pulling Evanescence's old page on JesusFreak.com, but a lot of things have changed since then, including me, and I'd like to offer a personal apology. I had totally forgotten that this page was still on the site, but after hearing an Evanescence song on the radio tonight that brought this page back to mind, I hope this apology will find its way back to the band. I took over JesusFreak.com from its previous webmaster, Dan Chick, in 2002. Evanescence had their page on this site before I took over the site from Dan. I'm not even sure the series of events that transpired nearly five years ago after controversy over comments by Evanescence over whether or not they were a "Christian band," although you can see my original comments at this link as they appeared in 2003. I want to state emphatically for the record that I deeply regret that I was so judgmental and jumped on the bandwagon of the Christian "mainstream" and did as everyone else was doing and pulled their page from this site. I'm grateful that the Lord has been teaching me so much about grace, forgiveness and my utter reliance on Him over these past several years and know that without Him, any presumption of "holiness" on my part is just as empty in my own life as it was for the Pharisee in Luke 18 that I was then. And God is still working on my heart, trying to make me more like Him and less like me every day. I don't know if this message will ever get to anyone in the band, but to the members of Evanescence, if you see this message, please accept my sincerest apologies for my self-righteousness and shortsightedness and lack of understanding of God's grace and love. I'm sorry it took me so long to realize this, and I ask for your forgiveness. Chad Steenerson Webmaster JesusFreak.com |
