In March 1999, I was just surfing the Net one night and got curious to see what ministry-oriented domain names might be available. With the song "Jesus Freak" by DC Talk in mind, I happened to look up "JesusFreak.org" and saw that it wasn't yet registered, and so I registered it. I put the first article I'd written, the one about prayer, on JesusFreak.org and began to write other articles about different aspects of Christian living and what it meant to really follow Christ. On May 13, 2002, I was able to also register JesusFreak.net after its previous owner let the registration lapse. My intention in registering that domain (and a few others as well) was so that I might gather together as many possible web addresses which people might look up, so as to have as many links as possible (and thus bring more people to my site) which would point back to the website. Think of it as adding more ramps off of the so-called "information superhighway" that would lead right to this site. On Aug. 1, 2002, I agreed to purchase JesusFreak.com from its original owner--this is another major detail God put into place, and I know He has huge plans for it, even though He hasn't told me yet what He is going to do with it. What would I like to see happen with this website and why has it become my obsession? I'll answer the second question first. This website has become my obsession because, since the Lord has called me to preach and has given me this website as such an incredible tool for ministry, how can I NOT use it to its fullest potential and how can I not appreciate the power of the Internet to reach unbelievers and to strengthen believers for the cause of Christ? If the Lord calls any of us to preach and then gives us the means to do so which increase the reach of our ministry exponentially, trust me, this is massively exciting. I know that mere words on a web page can't necessarily convey the utmost depth of my enthusiasm, but I'd be a fool not to use this ministry tool to reach as many people as possible (and there are, as of this writing, tens of millions of people, probably more, who are now connected to the Internet). Do you see the same potential I'm seeing for this site to reach thousands, perhaps millions, for Christ? I've been saying for a long time that Christians are way too scared of the Internet. Sure there's a lot of trash online, but how do we flush it out? Invade the enemy's territory with prayer, the Word of God and the blood of Jesus. Anyone with me?? So what do I want to see this website become? I want it to become the most-visited, hardest-hitting ministry website on the Internet, pouring out the love of Jesus to all who are seeking it, encouraging believers to think about what they believe and why they believe it, and then seeing them take the good news about Jesus to those who need to hear it. I know I'm thinking really big in wanting to see this site become the biggest ministry website anywhere online, but why should any of us, when the Lord gives us His word and the means to preach, expect small results? Especially since there's so many people out there--even and especially in our own congregations--who don't understand what it means to really know Christ. Sure I've got big expectations for this ministry. But we've got a lot of work to do. Pray for this ministry as the Lord takes it to places probably none of us imagines at this point. And expect big things to happen. |
